    What do you feed them

Great video! One thing I would add is a cinder block with the holes horizontal so the minnows have a place to hide and cut down on stress.

I build my own aerators from simple materials. I get a cheap 12v bilge pump. Take a eight inch square of one inch thick styrofoam. Cut a circle out of the center of the foam that is just large enough for the intake of the pump to fit in. Tie rap the pump to the foam. Place it in the tank with the pump being fed by a battery or 12v transformer. It will practically foam the water with air. Decades ago most bait camps had large troughs for bait and had large aerators that hung down in the tanks. This works nearly as well and shouldn't cost more than $30 to build. I should mention it floats upside down intaking air from above and blowing water and air out under the foam.

So i was trying to come up with a way to store all my left over minnows throughout the year. Came across this as i was thinking of something along the same lines as this. How did the minnows hold up? Would u change anything?I fish all year around here in Wisconsin.

So my thought on this is to replace the original 12 volt battery that the ice house came with a 12 volt 100 amp hr lithium and leave that wired by itself. Use another 12 volt 150 amp hr lithium with the inverter.Lithiums do not have to be vented so take out the battery vent that goes to the outside and replace that with a 120volt outdoor socket. Use an 120 volt 1500 watt inverter on battery #2 and feed the 120volts back in to the ice house from the 120volt socket and into the 30amp original socket that you will reduce to 120 volts. This would then give you 120volt power threw all your original plugs, run your microwave and charge battery #1 from the ice house converter. You would then just remove the one battery for charging. This would then prevent you from running wires threw your house.

I mean, charging lead acid batteries produce hydrogen gas. Not a problem when you’re draining them, but an issue when you’re running the generator which recharges your batteries too. 5:47

It looked like in the video that there was a quite a bit of current from the filter system, read somewhere that minnows would last longer if they didn’t have to swim hard, but did you find that the cinder blocks broke up any of that current?

  • @EarnestTillman

Love the simplicity of this build. I’ve had some Fathead minnows alive for 3 weeks now in just a 5 gal bucket with a aerator (Jan 7 thru 26-2023 Florida weather), Well water, and a little bit of bread crumbs. Kinda worried about keeping the water cool in the heat in my shed but I have some frozen water bottles ready 😂. I guess that’s about all I can do with such a small setup but does anyone know of another way….that’s portable to keep the water temperature cool enough to survive per say 103° heat?😢

Hey, saw you took it down in a comment 9 months ago. If you can reply I have a couple questions. I’m doing live shrimp (costal) and I just need some that I buy from a bait shop to just stay alive for a few days while I work so I can just go out my back yard basically and fish rather then drive 25 mins to the bait shop.
